Our excursion to the Melbourne Zoo

The Year 1 and 2 classes visited the Melbourne Zoo a few weeks ago. The focus was discovering different animals and which countries these animals come from. Below are a few activities we completed after the trip.

Wanted posters for an escaped zoo animal.

Where in the world are these animals from?

Oh, the places we will go...

This term we have been investigating different places and how we are connected to these places. We began by describing our favourite place at home and made a model of this space. Below are a few of these models.

The backyard

Shopping at 1KB Mart

Last week 1KB started making things for their class shop. Suggestions were taken for a name and
1KB Mart had the winning vote. Each class member made an origami wallet and collected $5 in coins to spend at the shop. Taking in turns, students were both the buyer and the seller. They had the option of buying 2 items each with their $5.

                                                            The shop is now open.
                                                             What a happy shopkeeper.
A robot purchased from 1KB Mart.
                                                            Another satisfied customer.
Preparing for shopping- An origami wallet to hold the $5 spending money.

Starbright Tours, Walk around Kew - A step back in time

As part of our Inquiry unit, Now and then, 1KB went on a historical walk around Kew. We were looking for old buildings, memorials and landmarks that were important to Kew in the past and are also important today. The walk was nearly 2km's long and a well earned snack was eaten at Alexandra Gardens before we returned to KPS.
