Shopping at 1KB Mart
Last week 1KB started making things for their class shop. Suggestions were taken for a name and
1KB Mart had the winning vote. Each class member made an origami wallet and collected $5 in coins to spend at the shop. Taking in turns, students were both the buyer and the seller. They had the option of buying 2 items each with their $5.
What a happy shopkeeper.

Starbright Tours, Walk around Kew - A step back in time
As part of our Inquiry unit, Now and then, 1KB went on a historical walk around Kew. We were looking for old buildings, memorials and landmarks that were important to Kew in the past and are also important today. The walk was nearly 2km's long and a well earned snack was eaten at Alexandra Gardens before we returned to KPS.
Maths in the Classroom
We have been building cities, counting buttons and creating games to consolidate our Maths skills in counting and place value.
St John's First Aid
During the first week of Term 2, St John's Ambulance came out to teach each class about First Aid. We learnt how we can help out in an emergency if someone is hurt. Through role playing and actions our instructor taught us to assess danger, see if the person is breathing and can hear us and how to put someone into the recovery position. We also practiced calling 000 for help and answering questions that may be asked over the phone.
SEDA soccer comes to Kew
Year 1's have been enjoying some soccer coaching and fun games with the students of SEDA. For the last 3 weeks, they have been divided into small groups to learn and practice soccer skills.

Reading activities
During reading groups, the students read a book at their reading level. They then retold the story in their own words. A few samples are included below. In another session, the students created a mind map to show the characters, setting, problem and solution of their story.
