Maths in the Classroom
We have been building cities, counting buttons and creating games to consolidate our Maths skills in counting and place value.
St John's First Aid
During the first week of Term 2, St John's Ambulance came out to teach each class about First Aid. We learnt how we can help out in an emergency if someone is hurt. Through role playing and actions our instructor taught us to assess danger, see if the person is breathing and can hear us and how to put someone into the recovery position. We also practiced calling 000 for help and answering questions that may be asked over the phone.

Reading activities
During reading groups, the students read a book at their reading level. They then retold the story in their own words. A few samples are included below. In another session, the students created a mind map to show the characters, setting, problem and solution of their story.
A story mind map.
Retell of 'A present for dad'.
A retell for 'Carla Crocodile's Adventure'.
A retell for 'Thomas had a Temper'.
Multicultural Day
Today we celebrated our multicultural community. The day began with a Parade of Nations showcasing our costumes, followed by two activities from different cultures. Finally, Sindy performed traditional chinese fan dances. We also enjoyed a yummy morning tea of international foods brought in by our classmates. There was lots of fun had by all!

Special Guests in the Classroom.
Over the last week, parents of 1KB students have been dropping in to chat about their jobs. It was interesting learning about their jobs, finding out how they learnt to do their work and that they are still learning today. Below are a few reflections written by the children.
